The Chorin Monastery : A brick Gothic jewel
The Chorin Monastery, an outstanding example of medieval brick Gothic architecture, is picturesquely nestled in the gentle hills of the Schorfheide, around 60 kilometers northeast of Berlin. It is considered one of the most important examples of this building era in Brandenburg.
Story
Founded in 1258 by the Ascanian margraves Johann I and Otto III. of Brandenburg, the Chorin monastery was once a center of spiritual life and economic activity. The monks followed the rules of the Cistercian Order and, in addition to prayer, devoted themselves to agriculture, education and art.
